Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Coal Transportation

Menteri ESDM Ambil Tindakan Tegas Terkait Mobilisasi Angkutan Batubara di Jambi

The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) pays attention to the problem of parking coal transport trucks on the shoulder of the road, broken axles, and long traffic jams that have occurred in Jambi. To overcome this problem, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources will form a joint team to discipline coal companies that carry out coal filling of more than 10 tons per truckload. This joint team will also monitor the transporter services that do this.

The Jambi government was also asked to take action against coal transporters who violated the rules and to report these violations to the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources so that their mining companies would be given sanctions in accordance with applicable regulations. The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources emphasized that companies that do not have parking pockets in their mining areas will be given sanctions in accordance with applicable regulations.

Payload that exceeds the tonnage of up to 14.7 tons is one of the causes of broken axles. In addition, the lack of parking pockets is also a factor for coal trucks to park on the shoulder of the road, triggering congestion at peak times.

The Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources guarantees that the government will assist the National Road Regulatory Agency (BPJN) to find a solution in terms of maintaining roads that are passed by coal transport in Jambi Province. The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources will coordinate with coal mining companies regarding road maintenance issues.

The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources also gave appreciation to the Governor of Jambi who has accelerated the process of building special lanes for coal transportation, especially waterways (river routes). In addition, the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) will also assist BPJN in repairing roads and maintaining roads.

Jambi Regional Police Traffic Director, Kombes Pol Dhafi, confirmed that the coal load was one of the triggers for the axles to break. “According to the results of the field, the cars that experienced broken axles were not in accordance with the maximum provisions that had been set,” he said.

With firm action from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, it is hoped that the problem of mobilizing coal transport in Jambi can be properly resolved.
